Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us for Your Slate Roof

Slate roofs in Otley laid in true courses, with sound slates kept wherever possible.

Dark natural slate roof

Laid in True Courses

Each slate is graded and fixed so the courses run straight and every joint is covered by the slates above.

Reuse Where Sound

Good original slates can go back on the roof alongside new ones, keeping the character of the house.

Repairs or Re-Slating

A few slipped slates are repaired; a roof with widespread slipping is better re-slated, and you are told which.

The Owner on the Job

Evian Roofing is owner run, so the person who surveys your slate roof is responsible for the finished work.

FAQs

Slate Roofs FAQs

Do You Cover Otley?

Yes. Otley in West Yorkshire is one of the areas Evian Roofing covers, along with nearby Guiseley, Yeadon and Horsforth. Call 0800 158 8240 with your postcode to arrange a visit.

How Do I Get a Quote for Slate Roofs in Otley?

Fill in the quote form at the top of this page with your postcode and the service you need, or call 0800 158 8240. A visit is arranged to look at the roof before the quote is prepared.

Why Do Slates Slip Off a Roof?

Usually because the nails holding them have corroded, a condition often called nail sickness. The slates themselves may still be sound, but once the fixings fail they slide out of their courses.

Should I Repair My Slate Roof or Have It Re-Slated?

A handful of slipped or broken slates on a sound roof can be repaired. When slates are slipping across the whole roof, the fixings are failing everywhere and re-slating with new fixings is the lasting answer.

Can My Original Slates Be Reused?

Often, yes. Slates are checked as they come off, and sound ones are reused alongside new slates, which keeps the look of the roof and avoids waste.

What Is the Difference Between a Slate Roof & a Tile Roof?

Natural slate is thin, very long lasting and suits older and period houses. Concrete and clay tiles are thicker, come in many profiles and usually cost less to lay. Both need sound battens and membrane underneath.
